There are thousands of millennial gurus tweeting all day about financial freedom, technical side gigs, earning money online, bitcoins and what not…

This post is not one of them. This post has absolutely nothing to do with money.

First of all, I would like to assume that if you end up here, you are a responsible adult with a decent understanding of what a career is. And working even a small side gig can help improving your career in many unexpected ways that could completely alter your ladder.

Psychological Detachment from work

Detachment sounds terrible but it is not.

All of us carry our jobs to home, regardless of being an uptight person or a total no-care Jake. We think about yesterday’s meeting, tomorrow’s presentation, the promotion we might get, the assholes we deal with and so on.

A side gig that you choose is most probably something you enjoy doing (if you are not crazily addicted to pain and suffering). And when you enjoy doing something with the right amount of effort, you get into a state called FLOW.
